The Transderwent is one of the feature events of the Royal Hobart Regatta and is on Sunday February 13, 2022. The traditional swim of about 1.5km (45 minutes time limit) across the Derwent River from Montagu Bay to the Regatta Grounds has become a ‘tick off the bucket list’ swim for locals as well as interstate/international visitors. The event caters for appoximately 100 swimmers to brave the dark waters of the Derwent River in this challenging swim. In 2022 a Double Derwent swim will also be run immediately following the traditional Transderwent swim so there will be swimming from about 9am until 11am with the Double Derwent swimmers swimming from the Regatta grounds to a buoy at Montagu bay and back to the Regatta grounds. This challenging swim will attract some of the elite open swimmers in the state to compete.
